March 2021 Countdown Self-Portrait Drawing: Once a day drawing from March 21 to March 28
|
Limited Time Online Show
Available March 29 - April 5 Keeping my self-portrait drawings was never on my mind, since I hardly paid attention to them when I was done. While reorganizing my studio about 2 weeks ago, I happened upon a stack of self-portrait drawings practice I made before. It was almost always midnight when these rough and quick practices were created. During that time, I more than likely either burned out from my day job or was just buried by my current project. Opening my sketch book, picking up a pencil or an oil pastel, and then looking into the mirror, allows my mind to relax and just draw what I see without thinking about good or bad results. However, looking back at these mindless drawings or paintings gathered after years, they reminded me of so many moments in the past 8 years of living in this country.I have been moving around to different cities in the Bay Area, studying, working, and living. Inspired by these fortuitous found works, I started to work on a countdown portrait drawing project starting on March 20. Once a day, a self-portrait is created recording the 10 days period until I turn 1 year older. This new series and the previous pieces are gathered together as two parts in this online show. |
